As Christmas approaches, we think about stocking stuffers and the toys and gifts we want to give our children and families. However, some families are less fortunate and, in support of the City of Lynwood, CA, we are accepting toys and monetary donations. This comes after a formal request from Mark Flores, Director of Recreation and Community Services in Lynwood. His goal this year is to help 250 Lynwood families during the holiday season. Mark and his team estimate that it will cost approximately $150.00 for a family of five. Each family will receive a toy (for a child aged 12 or under) plus a holiday meal and dessert.
When we read this we became motivated to make it happen and, hopefully, exceed their goal. Our hope is to get one construction truck loaded with as many toys as possible. Why a construction truck………?
Monzon and Son provide a fleet of construction trucks for all commercial and residential infrastructure development projects in the City of Los Angeles. Some pertinent projects we have been actively involved in include the Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach, the Metro Purple Line Extension into West L.A. and the development of the Bank of California Soccer Stadium in Exposition Park. We are a privately-owned family business, a reputable and hard-working construction trucking company with more than 20 years in the industry. We are also the single largest DBE, SBE, MBD and VSBE certified construction trucking company in Southern California.
Earlier this year, in preparation for further growth and expansion, we relocated our office to the city of Lynwood, CA.. Our mission is not only to work with the construction and infrastructure sector, but also to be heavily involved in our community. “It is the people that matter to us, be it our staff, our drivers, our families or the people of our community,” says Kelvin Monzon, President of Monzon and Son.
We pride ourselves on what we do; we pride ourselves in extending work opportunities and helping families grow. This toy drive is a small part of our overall mission to give back to the community. “It would give me great joy to present toys in one of our construction trucks to the city, light up the faces of children here and to make their Christmas an extra special one,” continues Kelvin.
Lizzette at Monzon and Son has been tasked to administer and receive all toys at our office at 2880 Norton Avenue, Lynwood, CA. For businesses wanting to participate, please note that all donations are tax deductible. Our deadline for donations is Thursday, December 7th, 2017. Simply come to our office, ask for Lizzette and drop off a check and/or as many toys as you are able.
