Analysts expect the project to add close to $5.2 billon to the local economy—all while the project budget was $700 million. This project is the largest development in the history of USC. This exemplifies the need for partnership with key institutions—such as USC—in order to facilitate construction and meet target dates. Many other universities have partnered with construction firms to expand their campuses. The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) is a prime example. They partnered with a local construction firm to create and complete a project that is expected to provide a $1.3 billion expansion to the campus, injecting $2.4 billion in to the state economy. As a result, this partnership is expected to create 12,000 new jobs, with a vast majority of them being construction jobs. Other universities, such as Drexel University, have taken similar approaches that will be completed in the course of two decades through these partnerships.
